From Bryant- Is God Reckless?

Parables SeriesToday’s post is from Bryant Gibson, Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry. Bryant will be continuing our Stories That Changed the World series by looking at the Parable of the Sower.

I love Netflix… But, I also hate Netflix.   I’m sure you all know what Netflix is by this time, but just in case you aren’t quite on the technology train yet, Netflix is a steaming movie service that offers thousands of movies and TV shows instantly for a small monthly fee.  The movies change from time to time and update to newer shows giving viewers the choice to watch anything from old Andy Griffith reruns to the latest and greatest super hero movie.  We’ve come a long way since holding the TV antenna for dad to make sure he can see the baseball game.

The problem is that the options on Netflix are limitless.  Do I want to watch a comedy, drama, horror movie or do I want to watch a TV series?  If I pick a TV series, do I choose something I have already seen that I know I’ll like, or do I try something new like Orange is the New Black or the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Both great shows by the way).  I find myself spending most of my free time scrolling through the options to find the perfect movie or TV show instead of actually watching something.  And when I do finally click on a show, half the time I can’t make it through because my boys think it’s their turn to watch the Super Hero Squad.  I know, I know… first world problems right.

Sometimes I wish there would be only one option for me when I turned on the TV.  “Here is the show you should watch.  Have fun!  You’re going to love it.”  Sometimes I wish bigger choices in our lives were that easy.  The perfect college accepts you, the dream job that we want is there for the taking, our perfect love knocks on our door one day and so on and so on.  But who am I kidding, life is all about choices and sometimes they are simple and other times they are excruciatingly hard.

This Sunday we are going to take a closer look at some of the choices we make and some of the choices God makes as we continue our sermon series “Parables That Changed the World.”

In The Parable of the Sower, Jesus gives great insight into who God chooses and why spreading seeds in good soil might yield great crops, but by being a little more reckless with where we spread our seeds, we catch a glimpse of the Kingdom of Heaven.

I hope you’ll join us!

Grace & Peace,

Bryant
